Senator Specter To Announce Federal Legislation Modeled After Prep
February 21 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced today that Mr. Ronald L. Cuie has been appointed as Director of the Mayor’s Office for the Re-Entry of Ex-Offenders and will lead Philadelphia’s efforts to re-integrate ex-offenders into the workforce.
Mayor Nutter made the announcement at a press conference at City Hall with United States Senator Arlen Specter after a meeting in the Mayor’s Office to discuss crime reduction, re-entry and mentoring. more »
Mayor Nutter Announces Appointments To The Philadelphia Youth Commission
February 20 - Mayor Michael A. Nutter has announced his four appointees to the Philadelphia Youth Commission: Jamira Burley, Bianca Diaz, David Smith and Matthew Zaccagni. Their term begins immediately and will end on August 31, 2009.
“The Youth Commission is a way for our city’s young leaders to become actively involved in City government, and also for City officials to benefit from the ideas and perspectives of young Philadelphians,” said Mayor Nutter. “I look forward to working with the Youth Commissioners and will create other ways in which to provide opportunities for students to become involved.” more » 
Mayor Nutter Appoints Rebecca Rhynhart as Debt Manager
Mayor Michael Nutter has appointed Rebecca Rhynhart, former managing director of the Tax-Exempt Group in the Global Credit Department of Bear Stearns and Co., as the Debt Manager for the City of Philadelphia.
“Both Rebecca’s deep experience in evaluating municipalities and corporate perspective will be a real asset to the city,” said Mayor Nutter. “I am so pleased that she chose to return to Philadelphia.” more »
Mayor Nutter Restores Foster Care and Protective Services for 14,000 Philadelphia Children.
Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced today that he is restoring child protective services for nearly 14,000 young people in Philadelphia and that he has asked Philadelphia Safe and Sound to preserve all afterschool programs (including afterschool at Beacons), curfew centers, Adolescent Violence Reduction Partnership (AVRP) and Families and Schools Together (FaST) programs. more »

Mayor Michael Nutter joined Governor Rendell today in welcoming the School Reform Commission’s choice of Dr. Arlene Ackerman as the next CEO of the School District of Philadelphia. Mayor Nutter Delivers First Budget Address To City Council
February 14, 2008 - Mayor Michael A. Nutter today delivered his Fiscal Year 2009 budget to City Council. It includes $3.97 billion in spending and calls for new fiscal investments to improve public safety, enhance educational opportunities, create healthy and sustainable communities, and encourage job creation and economic growth.
In a message to the citizens of Philadelphia, Mayor Nutter wrote, “This plan seeks to uphold our responsibility of fiscal stewardship while providing for the needs of our citizens. In producing this plan, my administration has strived to make the touch choices to meet the needs of our citizens and to make smart investments to secure the future of the City.”
Mayor Nutter and Fire Commissioner Ayers Announce New Investment in Emergency in Emergency Medical Services
Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced this morning that his upcoming budget will contain $3.8m in additional funding for Philadelphia’s Emergency Medical Services. These funds will be directed towards additional response vehicles, increased levels of personnel and new supplies and equipment, all aimed at the goal of reducing emergency response times. more »
Mayor Nutter, Police Department Announce Change in Pre-Academy Residency Requirement
Mayor Michael A. Nutter and the Philadelphia Police Department announced a change in the one year pre-Academy residency requirement, lifting a major barrier to recruiting qualified applicants from across the region and nation.
“Philadelphia already has an excellent police force and the Civil Service Commission’s move to waive the pre-Academy residency requirement ensures that all new recruits will be of the highest caliber available,” said Mayor Michael Nutter. “If someone wants to come to Philadelphia and make a career of protecting our city, I don’t want to stand in his or her way.” more »
