Philadelphia Named Most Affordable City for College Graduates
April 30, 2008 –Philadelphia has been named the most affordable city in the United States of America for young college grads according to new research published today by Apartments.com and Careerbuilder’s CBCampus.com website.

Mayor Nutter, Clergy Start "Peaceful Surrender" Initiative
April 30, 2008 – This morning Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison, members of the clergy, and the Philadelphia law enforcement community kicked-off the “Peaceful Surrender” initiative. Mayor Nutter Signs Gun Legislation Passed By Council
April 10, 2008This afternoon, Mayor Michael A. Nutter signed 5 pieces of gun legislation sponsored by Councilmembers Clarke and Miller.
These measures passed City Council earlier today with a vote of 17-0. The signing took place in front of one of the three evidence rooms where seized guns are held. 5,085 guns were taken off the streets by police in 2007 alone.

Keep America Beautiful Says Philly Spring Cleanup "Largest Single-Day Citywide Cleanup Event"
April 8, 2008 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter reported the results of the April 5th Philly Spring Cleanup at a press conference at City Hall today. Goals that were set prior to the Cleanup were met and exceeded, and Keep America Beautiful - the organization responsible for clean-ups across the country – has confirmed that the Philly Spring Cleanup was the largest single day, citywide clean-up on record in the United States. more »PDF icon

Southeastern Pennsylvania Emergency Text Alert System Launched
April 4, 2008 — ReadyNotifyPA, an emergency text messaging service that will keep the public informed during a crisis in Southeastern Pennsylvania, was launched today at a regional press conference at the National Constitution Center. Mayor Michael Nutter, was joined by Bucks and Montgomery County Commissioner Chairs Jim Cawley and James R. Matthews, along with Delaware County Council Vice Chair John J. Whelan, encouraging the public to sign up for ReadyNotifyPA to receive critical information during emergencies. more »
