Licenses and Inspections issues a reminder to Contractors that they must list their license      information when advertising in local papers. In addition, the public is being advised that                                        Licenses and Inspections has a listing of licensed contractors on Licenses and Inspections                                         website.

Licenses and Inspections is responsible for regulating the conduct of businesses and persons by issuing Licenses, conducting inspections and by enforcing applicable codes and regulations.

"Obtaining the proper permits and hiring licensed contractors is essential in safeguarding the public against fraud" said Robert D. Solvibile, Sr., Commissioner of Licenses and Inspections. "Public safety is our number one concern."   In accordance with the Philadelphia Code in section 9-1004(5)(c) requires the contractor to include their contractor license number on stationery and in advertisements. Every licensed Contractor shall notify the Department of Licenses and Inspections in writing within ten days of any change in any of the information required to be submitted to the Department under section 9-1104(3).

Contractors must secure all required permits prior to commencement of construction or demolition; and all advertisements and Contractor's stationery shall include the Contractor's license number; and they must comply with all provisions of The Philadelphia Code.

Contractors must correct any code violations cited by the Department of Licenses and Inspections as a result of such Contractor's work activity within the period for compliance specified in the notice from the Department.

Contractors shall maintain complete financial and construction records (including plans) for each job performed, for four years after the completion of the job. All such records shall be subject to audit by the Department of Licenses and Inspections for a period of four years after the completion of a job.

Before you hire a Contractor, please visit licenses and Inspections website @www.phila.gov and click on to Licenses and Inspection website; Licensed Contractors to see if the Contractor is properly licensed.
