ABOVE GROUND SWIMMING POOL
This permit authorizes the installation of an above ground swimming pool in the rear yard of a one- or two-family dwelling. Construct above ground pool and its appurtenances in accordance with Section 3109 of the Philadelphia Building Code. Barrier options may be found in the Department's website.
All one and two family dwelling swimming pools must comply with the following:

The pool must have a barrier of at least 48" in height with a self-closing and latching gate swinging in the opposite direction.
The pool itself may be used as a barrier, provided a barrier meeting this code surrounds the means of access (fixed steps or removable ladder).
Where the wall of the dwelling unit serves as part of the barrier and is equipped with a door, one of the following shall apply:
- The door have an alarm complying with section B-3109.4.1.8 -or-
- The door swing away from the pool area and be self-closing and latching. The release mechanism shall be 54 inches or more above the floor –or-
- The pool is equipped with an approved power safety cover –or-
- The
Code Official must approve alternative devices.
A poolside deck of 50 square feet or less is permitted as an appurtenant
The pool water shall be properly treated and remain free of scum, debris and foreign matter.
Discharge water shall not create a nuisance to the adjoining property.
Inspector must be notified 48 hours prior to the start of work and the permit must be posted. Failure to comply will result in the issuance of a $75 ticket for each offense.
EXTERIOR WALL COVERING
Wall coverings shall be installed in accordance with Section 1405 of the Philadelphia Building Code.
Exterior walls may be covered with any of the items listed under "Type". A wall inspection must be requested before the covering is applied. Any other requested methods of covering required that you obtain a building permit through our Permit Services Unit in the Concourse of the Municipal Services Building 1401 JFK Blvd.
Inspector must be notified 48 hours prior to the start of work, and the permit must be posted. Failure to comply will result in the issuance of a $75 ticket for each offense.
PORCH FLOOR
This permit may be used for replacing wood joists of the same size or larger, or replacing the porch with concrete, on a one- or two-family dwelling any other work requires that you obtain a permit through our Permit Services Unit in the Concourse of the Municipal Services Building 1401 JFK Blvd.
Note: No permit is required to repair or replace the decking of a porch located at a one- or two-family dwelling. This permit may not be used for a deck. For information on obtaining a deck permit see our website.
