Barbara AshChief Deputy City Solicitor Child Welfare Unit
As Chief Deputy City Solicitor of the Child Welfare Unit, Ms. Ash is responsible for providing representation to the City of Philadelphia's Department of Human Services.
The Child Welfare Unit represents the Department of Human Services (DHS). The unit consists of 35 attorneys who represent DHS in Family Court and before the Department of Public Welfare's Bureau of Hearings and Appeals. In addition, Child Welfare Unit attorneys provide counseling and advice to DHS regarding the complex array of statutes, regulations and policies that govern the child welfare system.
Barbara Ash is a 1982 graduate of the Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law. She Has practiced with the City since 1991.
