Summer Food Program

The Office of Food Protection under contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Education monitors the Summer Food Program within Philadelphia.  The Summer Food Program provides an extension of the school lunch program throughout the school summer vacation months to ensure thousands of children continue to receive a healthy nutritionally balanced daily meal.  The OFP conducts inspections of summer food distribution sites operated by various sponsoring agencies including the Philadelphia Archdiocese, Philadelphia Department of Recreation and the Philadelphia Housing Authority.  Foods provided by the program are routinely collected and analyzed for bacteriological quality by the Philadelphia Public Health Laboratory.
