Youth Wellness

It is critically important to engage youth as leaders to improve their own health and that of their peers, family and neighbors.

Get Healthy Philly partners with youth program providers, community-based organizations, and youth themselves to create school, summer, and afterschool environments that support health.

Our initiatives include:

  • partnering with the Mayor’s Office of Education to include health (food, fitness, water, and fun) into the Community Schools Initiative
  • identifying opportunities to support nutrition, physical activity, and breastfeeding in the early child care and education community
  • improving school food and other school-based opportunities for physical activity
  • supporting Philadelphia Parks and Recreation After-School and Summer Programs in serving healthy meals and providing physical activity opportunities
  • developing and implementing Healthy Living Guidelines for City-funded Out of School Time Programs
  • developing youth leadership including through HYPE (Healthy You—Positive Energy)
  • supporting safe routes to school programming with the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities
