40-Day Journey Fitness and Health Challenge

A special health journey for the faith-based community, "40-Day Journey from Egypt to the Promised Land", is being offered by the Mayor's Office of Health and Fitness.

Utilizing the biblical account of the Children of Israel being rescued from their enslavement by the Egyptians, a "40-Day Journey" was developed.

SIGNIFICANCE of 40 DAYS

Noah's life was transformed by 40 days of rain.
Moses was transformed by 40 days on Mount Sinai.
The spies were transformed by 40 days in the Promised Land.
David was transformed by Goliath's 40-day challenge.
Elijah was transformed when God gave him 40 days of strength from a single meal.
The entire city of Nineveh was transformed when God gave the people 40 days to change.
Jesus was empowered by 40 days in the wilderness.
The disciples were transformed by 40 days with Jesus after his resurrection.

Replicating the experience of the Children of Israel and their exodus, the Pastor becomes Moses, and leads the congregants from the bondage and enslavement from destructive lifestyle patterns to being free to enjoy restored health!  (Egypt to Canaan).

The dietary food during the 40 days represents the Manna God provided the Jews as they traveled to the Promised Land, and is termed the Daniel Diet.   Daniel, chapter 1, describes the plant-based diet that the young captive and his three friends demonstrated to provide them with mental and physical superiority.

A weekly 1-1/2 hour interactive education session for all participants is encouraged and is facilitated by the Pastor and the "40-Day Journey" Education team.  The journey includes a "travel itinerary" that provides daily opportunities for varied physical activities like Gospel Aerobics, Walking Clubs, and nutrition/cooking classes.  "Travelers" also receive a "passport" that allows them entrance to the smorgasbord of activities, and also serves as a logbook to journal their progress.   Meaningful incentives are awarded to participants who redeem their "frequent activity miles".

Pre-and post physical assessments are included as a part of the "journey" to establish participants' baseline and positive outcomes.  This feature serves as an effective motivating factor for "travelers!"

What is the Daniel Diet? Any and all plant-based foods; NO animal flesh.
