MARINE OPERATIONS

The mission of the Marine Units of the Philadelphia Fire Department is to help revitalize the port system by providing emergency service and port security to all port associated inhabitants, vessels, and structures.

The Marine Division, under the supervision of S.O.C. is responsible for operational control of Marine Unit 1 located at the U.S. Coast Guard station; Columbus Blvd. and Washington Avenue on the Delaware River; Marine Unit 2 on the Schuylkill River; and Marine 102, the reserve boat currently stationed with MU-2.

The Special Operations Officer directly supervises the eight (8) Fire Boat Pilots and eight (8) Fire Boat Engineers who staff the Marine Units. Other duties include the coordination of all Marine activities and the evaluation of all training and equipment needs. This Officer also acts as a liaison for the Marine Division with the Field Battalion and Division Chiefs.
