Deputy Fire Commissioner Ernest F. Hargett, Jr. was appointed to the Philadelphia Fire Department in October 1974.  He has served in a variety of roles at various ranks during his career.  He was appointed as Deputy Fire Commissioner of Technical Services on August 20, 2004 and then as Deputy Fire Commissioner of Operations on January 3, 2006.

Deputy Fire Commissioner Hargett received his Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2001 from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania, where he continues to pursue course work needed for his Masters in Education.  He is a graduate of the Community College of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he received his Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Fire Science with Highest Honors in May 1998.

On January 16, 2009, Deputy Fire Commissioner Hargett was presented the coveted Executive Fire Officer Program certificate by the U.S. Fire Administration’s, National Fire Academy.  He was also awarded certification from the Dr. Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute at Clark-Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia, in June 2008.

On April 13, 2009 the US Fire Administration (USFA) announced that Deputy Fire Commissioner Ernest F. Hargett, Jr. had been selected for a 2009 fellowship to attend Harvard University’s Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. He completed this program on July 24, 2009 and was awarded the Senior Executives in State and Local Government certification.

 He currently resides in the East Oak Lane area of Philadelphia with his wife Terri.
