Peter Crespo

Executive Chief

Executive Chief Peter Crespo was appointed by Mayor Michael A. Nutter on June 27, 2014 as a Deputy Commissioner with the working title of Executive Chief. An eleven year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department, at 36 years he is a shining star amongst the men and women with which he serves. The youngest to hold the Executive Chief’s position and the highest ranking Latino serving to date, Chief Crespo was chosen to directly assist Fire Commissioner Derrick J.V. Sawyer for his tried field experience, diverse educational background and impressive knowledge base.

Known for his excellent communication and people skills, Chief Crespo is considered a rare asset for his bilingual fluency in both English and Spanish. Juggling many hats as the Executive Chief of the fifth largest public safety department in the U.S., among his many responsibilities he heads the Department’s Media & Public Relations division and assists with special projects and event coordination.

In his Civil Service capacity he successfully managed and worked at several of the most demanding companies and units in the City of Philadelphia and holds certification in both Technical Rescue and HAZMAT Operations. Through the course of his young career he has supervised a Special Operations Company, instructed and facilitated multiple Fire Cadet classes at the Philadelphia Fire Academy and become a member of Pennsylvania Task Force One (PATF-1 -an Urban, Search and Rescue resource of FEMA).

A Central High School alum, and graduate of Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute, Chief Crespo holds an Associate degree in Fire Science from Community College of Philadelphia and Bachelor of Science Degree in Emergency Management from Philadelphia University. He is currently enrolled at Saint Joseph’s University where he is pursuing a Master's Degree in Homeland Security.

On a continuous mission to increase his knowledge base and expertise in the interest of public safety, he received certifications as Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Instructor II and Incident Safety Officer. Executive Chief Crespo has been certified in numerous capacities by the National Fire Academy along his educational journey and looks to increasingly hone his tactical experience in the fire service.

Executive Chief Peter Crespo is a native of Philadelphia and in his spare time enjoys life with his family.
