Database Management

The Database Group maintains all data critical to the function of these departments: Department of Finance, District Attorney, Philadelphia Police, Department of Revenue, Personnel, Board of Pensions, Department of Human Services, Licenses & Inspections, among others.

The data stored in these management systems is used to collect taxes, pay employees, pay vendors, manage contracts, provide city services, pay pensioners and catch criminals.

The Database Group is responsible for the storage, tuning, maintenance and backup of various City of Philadelphia database management systems. 

Data Center Operations

MVS technical support, quality control of output and daily distribution, forms design and control of official City documents, Data Center Operations and Server Facility monitoring, and Help Desk Support.

  • Technical Support - Systems programming of MVS Operating system, supporting components, and distributed systems network integration. Software/hardware.
  • Production Control - quality control of automated processes which include MVS mainframe batch job scheduler, RMM tape cartridge (6000+ ) tape management system, weekly City payroll and pension production, and assurance for the accurate daily completion of print output.
  • Data Center - staffed 24x7, assists both production control unit and the Help Desk in quality control and tier one technical support to City and public end-users.
  • Helpdesk - provides tier 1 technical support to City and public end-users. This includes troubleshooting technical problems, with approved authorization fulfilling internet, LAN, and email access. Working collaboratively with technical leads in DOT and other departments and outside entities, preparing statistical reports and trends, fulfilling a myriad of technical requests upon approval and providing overall initial customer service representation for the MOIS department.
  • Electronic print - responsible for the design programming and maintenance of certain official City documents which include: payroll/pensions/election/finance/levy checks, revenue, license and inspections, W2s, etc. forms.

Document Management/Imaging

Imaging Technology is an efficient way of managing Documents throughout their life-cycle, from authoring and/or capture through review, approval, distribution, change/revision and archiving. It provides robust, high-performance content management functionality (Document, records management, enterprise report management, and enterprise application integration) and business process automation (workflow) for the enterprise and beyond to the Internet, Intranet, and Extranet.

Email Administration

The Email Team is responsible for Lotus Notes electronic mail. Our goal is to ensure efficient, reliable and robust e-mail communications for the City of Philadelphia. We ensure that internal e-mail flows and is reliable as well as facilitate communication between The City of Philadelphia’s e-mail system and outside domains. The Domino Team is responsible for all Domino electronic mail servers and supports over 13,500 mail users.
