Each year Urban Genesis Inc., through the CRIME AND DRUG FREE - THAT'S ME program exposes 400 students from several Philadelphia Middle Schools to the inter-workings of the criminal justice system. This all-day, intensive program focuses on the consequences of negative behavior and rewards of positive behavior.

It is our intention to have students who participate, take the responsibility of spreading the message of being crime and drug free during the school year, throughout the summer and the rest of their lives. As part of this initiative to create and reinforce good citizenship, the middle school students chosen to participate in this program will work on projects creating logos, writing poetry and essays that will encourage their peers to also live crime and drug free.

As part of this intensive program students tour the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center with emphasis on understanding the functions of the arraignment process, courtroom procedures and the underground holding cell. After the tour, students have lunch and are shown a film produced by the BluePrint for a Safer Philadelphia program and participate in an anti-drug power point presentation. Local celebrities and staff from several crime prevention agencies stop by and speak to the students about becoming advocates for positive behavior.

The CRIME AND DRUG FREE - THAT'S ME program sponsored by PECO Energy has partnered with several Philadelphia agencies and crime prevention groups to reinforce the message of good citizenship. Those agencies include the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office and the Philadelphia Sheriff's Department. Their crime prevention partners include Mothers in Charge, Men United for a Better Philadelphia, Mr. Robert Albrooks and Light-Heavy Weight Boxing Champion, Bernard Hopkins.
