The building is fully sprinklered. It is heated and cooled by forced
air units that extract cooling and heating from a geothermal system
that consist of six (6) wells that were drilled over five hundred
feet deep. The Zoo Shop was also fitted out with a new point of
sales system and is part of the Zoo's main telecommunication and
water service loop. The two new entrances to the Zoo Shop allow the
visitor to access the Zoo Shop when entering or leaving the Zoo. The
free flowing access, additional retail space, new display fixtures,
lighting and checkout counters allow easy shopping for the visitor
and can top off an experience at the Zoo.

The Philadelphia Zoological Gardens is located at
3400 West Girard Avenue. The Zoo Shop is located at the Zoo's main
entrance, "The North Gate", and is open to the public free of charge
during regular operating hours. Renovations at the Zoo Shop consisted of
the following: gutting the interior space and extension of the west
exterior wall to provide additional retail and office space; excavation
to lower the shop to provide a storage area and mechanical space; a new
one story addition creating a new main entrance; new roof; and signage
with state-of-the-art graphics.
