The program for the Bear Country Improvements
includes a series of projects phased over the last seven years with
a goal of addressing a number of infrastructure issues with Bear
Country. The first phase included the installation of an ozone
disinfection system to address water quality issues and to reduce
the need to expose the polar bears to chlorine. In Phase II a new
HVAC System was installed in the Bear Country Animal and Keeper
spaces to address high humidity issues with the spaces. Phase III
work included the replacement of the bear cage doors, painting of the polar bear pool and the painting of the interior
animal and keeper spaces. The construction cost was $403,000.
