SATURDAY, JANUARY 24TH
Mayor Michael Nutter kicked off the process of public engagement in the new budget process on Saturday afternoon by visiting barbershops and beauty salons in the Germantown and Chelten Avenue area.
Joined by Councilwoman Donna Reed-Miller, Mayor Nutter talked with Philadelphians about the City’s financial challenges, their concerns, and how the recession has impacted their day-to-day lives.
“This whole process is about getting out into the community and talking to folks about how they are handling these tough economic times, and listening to their concerns and suggestions on how the City should respond,” said Mayor Nutter. “Over the next few weeks as we start to put together our budget I’m going to be out in neighborhoods across the city and I want to hear from you.”
MONDAY, JANUARY 26TH
Mayor Nutter visited Chester County today to talk with political and business leaders in the suburbs about the challenges that Philadelphia is facing and ways in which we can work together as a region to weather the economic storm.
In a speech to the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry Mayor Nutter talked about how everyone will need to tighten belts and make sacrifices to get through the recession. He also spoke of his vision for the future, when the economy picks up again, and how if we all work together we will be stronger, smarter, and more prosperous.
In the Q&A following his speech, Mayor Nutter was asked about President Obama’s recovery package. He underlined that he has been advocating strongly for money to come directly to cities like Philadelphia that have the needs, the people and the projects to put Americans back to work.
