Summary of the different types of exhibitions shown in City Hall:
Professional Exhibitions
Art In City Hall produces juried exhibitions for emerging and professional local artists. Approximately three to four exhibitions each year are juried group exhibitions based on specific themes. From 1984 - 2008, there have been 57 group exhibitions, which have given opportunities to nearly 2000 artists. These exhibitions are supported by the Art In City Hall Exhibitions Committee made up of arts professionals from the area. Over the years, just about every major arts organization in Philadelphia has been represented on this volunteer committee, which helps guide this unique program.
NAP Exhibitions
The National Arts Program at Philadelphia is an annual exhibition for city employees sponsored by the NAP Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Malvern, PA. Cash awards are given out in several categories: Professional, Intermediate, Amateur, Children 12-18 years, and Children 6-12. The first NAP pilot exhibition began in Philadelphia in 1985 to promote artistic development and arts appreciation in our City workforce. The program now reaches 255 cities in 26 states nationwide. Hundreds of employees and their families participate in the exhibition program, representing numerous departments and agencies within City government.
Special Exhibitions
As part of Art In City Hall's outreach efforts, the program continues to partner with the private sector, including arts organizations, community nonprofits and other City agencies to promote artistic development and appreciation. Past participants have been hospitals and health care centers, community art centers, senior centers, small arts organizations and schools for children with special needs.
