Mayor’s Task Force on Tax Policy and Economic Competitiveness
In February 2009, Mayor Michael A. Nutter signed Executive Order No. 3-09, creating the Mayor’s Task Force on Tax Policy and Economic Competitiveness. The Task Force is charged with evaluating Philadelphia’s real estate development environment and its tax policy and structure; and how they compare to competitor cities and neighboring jurisdictions. The group is tasked with providing recommendations in October 2009. The Task Force is comprised of residents and taxpayers representing small and large business owners, academics, the private sector and community interests.
The Task Force began its work in April 2009. Since then it has been meeting and gathering information from a variety of sources. Public meetings to review preliminary findings from the Task Force and seek public feedback were held on May 21st and August 13th.
