Black History Month Art Contest
BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2012 ART CONTEST PROGRAM BULLETIN
PROGRAM Recreation participants develop two or three-dimensional artwork relevant to Black History Month. The best of these works will be used in an exhibit in the main offices of the Recreation Department as well as the Main Branch of the Free Library.
PURPOSE
To encourage participants to broaden the range of their artistic expression by developing artwork on a specific theme. To increase interest in, and knowledge of Black History.
GUIDELINES
- Possible subjects could include portraits of noted individuals, scenes from history, ethnic designs, masks, etc. Avoid religious themes.
- All work must be done at a Recreation Department facility.
- All work must be relevant to the theme.
- Work must be durable. Media such as plasticine and school paste should not be used and cannot be accepted.
- All work must be correctly tagged, either typed or in legible hand printing.
- Leaders must make sure that each piece has the participant's name, age and facility permanently marked on the back or the bottom of the piece.
- Flatwork must be mounted or matted.
- Flatwork is limited to a maximum of 16" x 20", including the mat.
- Dimensional work is limited to a maximum of 15" wide and 19" high. (Since space for large pieces is limited, we may have to screen entries on a merit basis)
DATES
January 27th All entries must be delivered to Holmesburg before 4PM.
January 30th Judging
January 31st Artwork will go on display at 1515 Arch Street, 10th Floor
and the Children's Section of the Free Library (main branch)
February 29th Exhibit ends.
AWARDS
Certificates will be awarded for the most outstanding works, based on age and media.
All entries will receive a certificate of participation.
