The Equipment Officer serves as the Fire Department’s liaison between the Fire Equipment Industry, the Field Fire Fighting Forces, and the Equipment Repair Section of the Department’s Warehouse. The Equipment Office maintains an active relationship with the Budget Officer and the Department’s procurement specialists in order to accomplish this mission.

The Equipment Officer’s responsibilities include:

  • Gathering critical information needed to make informed recommendations for the purchase of safer and more efficient equipment
  • Working closely with the Philadelphia Fire Academy to facilitate the training requirements needed for new equipment purchases
  • Working in conjunction with the Fiscal Section of the Fire Department formulating specifications and preparing bid proposals for the purchase of equipment, parts, and services
  • Maintaining close contact with the Warehouse and their Repair Facility to monitor their needs in support of Department operations
  • Developing a rapport with Field Forces for the purpose of evaluating new equipment and procedures, gathering feedback on present and future equipment, and resolving any concerns that may exist
  • Manage a comprehensive, state-of-the-art maintenance and support system for the Fire Department’s S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing apparatus)
  • Oversee the complete maintenance needs of the Department’s Hurst BVR (Basic Vehicle Rescue) System including equipment upgrades where indicated
  • Manage a comprehensive maintenance system for the Department’s breathing air compressors Provide support for various special events and activities
