W. WILSON GOODE, JR. was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia, Pa. He is a graduate of Central High School and the University of Pennsylvania. With over 220,000 votes in the November 1999 election, the son of the city's first African-American mayor earned a seat on the Council of the City of Philadelphia as an at-large member. In January 2000, he was sworn in as the youngest member of City Council. Before his election, Goode worked as an economic development professional and served on key economic development boards and committees from 1992-99. Chosen as one of Business Philadelphia Magazine's 100 People to Watch and co-author of The Urban League of Philadelphia's report Economic Power: Leveling the Playing Field, Goode is recognized as one of the city's leading authorities on urban economic development. |
